Home Sweet Home

Prague has proven to be one of the most beautiful and confusing cities I have ever traveled to. When left to my own devices I can't get from point A to point B no matter how many times I've done so before. I try to be aware of my surroundings at all times, but seem to notice people more than places. Before coming to Prague, I had spent a week backpacking between several cities with Taylor and our friend Nicole. Three females walking the streets of western Europe was not always safe so I became almost paranoid that we were going to be targeted by pick pockets or a person who had another agenda for us. Luckily we were never in any danger, probably because I had an iron fist clenched around my backpack and purse at all times. Now that I am in Prague and have been here for over a week I am settling into what feels like a second home and finally I can notice the my beautiful surroundings and not just the tourist packed streets. Per our discussion in class about selective attention I realized that most of the time while walking I had no recollection of the journey, only the destination. This same concept applies to teaching, when students focus too much or too little on the wrong thing, they can miss the entire point. When an instructor directs a student towards the main idea of a lesson, they are more likely to focus and remember what is important. I hope that as the days go by here, they not only slow down, but I am able to look around and notice everything.
